Having taught in towns and villages throughout the area for a number of years, Anne Barrett founded the dance school in 1986. In 1994, Jayne Green (daughter of Anne) joined the school as an experienced and qualified teacher. In 2018 Anne sadly passed away leaving Jayne as the new principal of The Melksham School of Dance. In 2020, with over 10 years’ experience as a professional dancer, Katherine Green (daughter of Jayne) joined the teaching faculty as a qualified teacher from the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). In 2023, with over 10 years’ experience as a professional dancer, Ryan Pellett joined the teaching faculty as a registered teacher from the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA). The Melksham School of Dance continue to operate as a family run dance school. We offer a personal touch for our pupils and their families.
If you’d like to bring your child for a free taster class with no obligation, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Alternatively, if you're an adult dancer interested in exploring any of our adult classes, we’d love to hear from you as well. No question is too small—whether it’s about our classes, attire, content, or teaching approach, we’re always happy to have a chat and provide any information you need.

The Melksham School of Dance is proud to say that since the passing of Mrs Barrett in 2018, the school has continued to grow and evolve. In October 2025, Miss Katherine and Mr Ryan welcomed a baby girl, meaning we are once again a three-generation dance school. Family is truly at the heart of everything we do here.

Our mini movement classes are perfect for young children who love music and dance. These sessions focus on developing key motor skills like skipping and hopping, while fostering creativity through fun, imaginative movement sequences in a nurturing environment.

Our experienced teachers teach a variety of dance styles for all levels of dancers. Whether you're a beginner or advanced, we have a class for you.
We offer: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Heels, Lyrical, Stretch/Limber and Ballroom/Latin.

We offer a diverse selection of adult classes from Tuesday to Thursday each week, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Stretch/Limber and Ballroom/Latin. Our commitment is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants. Plus, all adult classes are available on a pay-as-you-go basis for added flexibility.

Seeking personalised instruction? We offer private dance lessons with our expert teachers, tailored to help you refine your technique or master a specific dance style. Additionally, we provide audition preparation, including dance routines, vocal coaching, and monologue guidance, for those preparing to audition for vocational dance and drama schools.

RAD Exams are a regular part of our curriculum, though participation is optional. Many of our students embrace the challenge and the valuable experience of taking these exams. As the most globally recognised dance syllabus, the RAD also provides UCAS points for each exam completed.

We're passionate about offering our dancers enriching experiences beyond the studio. Each year, we make it a priority to attend 'Move It,' the UK's largest dance event in London. With the Bath Theatre Royal and Bristol Hippodrome nearby, we also enjoy taking in live theatre whenever possible.

We take great pride in fostering creativity through our annual Summer School, which features a unique theme each year. Students, including those newly enrolled for the session, have the opportunity to explore a variety of dance genres, engage in arts and crafts, and immerse themselves in musical theatre. The programme culminates in a small performance for parents and guardians to enjoy, showcasing the talents and hard work of our participants.

We proudly produce an annual show at The Neeld Hall in Chippenham, often featuring story-driven productions like Cinderella and Peter Pan, where students can take on leading roles. Every other year, we also host a themed showcase performance—our next, A Night at the Musicals, is in February 2026. Participation is optional, and students can choose to learn the choreography for fun without the pressure of performing.

We take great pleasure in hosting themed discos and parties at our Melksham studio, celebrating occasions such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. The studio is beautifully decorated to reflect each season, creating a festive atmosphere for our students. These events offer a fun-filled mix of dancing, games, and entertainment, ensuring a memorable experience for all.

What an incredible week we had at our Matilda Summer School in August 2026!
Our summer school was a huge hit, with over 45 pupils taking part, including our own pupils as well as lots of new faces who joined us for the first time. It was fantastic to welcome everyone and see so much enthusiasm, energy and talent throughout the week.
Throughout the week, our pupils had the opportunity to learn the choreography to “Revolting Children” from Matilda The Musical, developing their performance skills, confidence and teamwork along the way.
As part of our Matilda week, our pupils also watched the film and were thrilled to receive some very special video messages from Charlie, who played Bruce Bogtrotter in the film, as well as Gracie, who played Amanda Thripp in the West End, and Amelia, who is currently playing Matilda in the West End.
These special messages were a fantastic surprise for our pupils and made an already memorable week even more exciting!
A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make our Matilda Summer School such a success. It was wonderful to see our pupils welcoming new friends, building confidence and, most importantly, having lots of fun.
🎬 Plans are already underway for our Summer School 2027, and we can’t wait to reveal what we have in store. Watch this space! ✨
